Electricity in the bus, SAFETY first

Safety is the main prerequisite to consider when carrying out an electrical installation on a bus. Incorrect installation without adequate safety measures is a very high risk that can be avoided by following a series of recommendations:

To offer greater comfort in vehicles and an extra service to passengers, 220v alternating current systems are installed in buses, the same as those found in homes.

The most common installation of this type of systems consists of several parts:

1. The converter, the heart of the installation

This part is one of the most important of the installation. There are many converters on the market; its basic function is to convert 24v of direct current (battery) into 220v of alternating current (that of the house).

When converting from direct to alternating, the type of wave must be considered whether it is modified or pure. The modified wave type is cheaper since the current wave is not real but electronically simulated. The pure wave type generates a high precision current wave.

Home electronic equipment is designed to work with pure wave, PC or mobile device chargers may not turn on when the converter is modified wave.

Although there may be a 40% difference in price between the modified wave and the pure wave one, a pure wave one should be used.

Among the pure wave ones there are converters with advanced protection systems, this means that just like in a home we can mount an electrical panel with differential and magnetothermic switches to protect users.

The Mastervolt devices used in the electrical systems made by Azimut are certified and approved and can be configured to protect the entire installation from overload or short circuit. The most important thing is that it prevents anyone from being electrocuted because it is able to simulate a grounding, as highlighted in the manual.

Our recommendation is to place a pure wave converter so that there is no equipment that presents any problems. And we also want to ensure the safety of the traveler and the vehicle itself, the most appropriate is a device such as Mastervolt converters that have the ability to create a grounding (GND) in vehicles.

2. Electrical installation.

In this section we can comment on two points, the first would be an installation with conventional wiring that complies with the regulations for low voltage installations and the other would be to use a track system that also complies with all regulations and certifications.

3. Protection box, the active protection system:

Last but not least, in order to make a safe installation in a vehicle, the ideal is to mount a protective box like the one found in homes. Having grounded (GND) equipment such as those from Mastervolt described above, we assemble active protection systems with differential and thermal switches per line. This way we will have fully protected installations.
