FLIR THE SAFETY TOOL TO SHORTEN THE REACTION DISTANCE

FLIR THE SAFETY TOOL TO SHORTEN THE REACTION DISTANCE

Driving in rural roads can be complicated and if we add night drives or reduced visibility due to fog, it is even more complicated.

On the road you have to be always attentive and focused. But there are other factors that can influence when it comes to avoiding an accident.

Some important data about the reaction distance

Stop distance = reaction distance + braking distance (danger)

Braking distance (danger) = 1/2 x (speed / 10 x speed / 10)

When watching, the average time between seeing an emergency and putting your foot on the brake is 0.7 seconds.

The distance that is traveled in that time is the “reaction time distance”.

The distance of the reaction time is affected by three things:

At three different speeds, the minimum braking distances under optimal conditions, ie dry road, excellent brakes and an attentive driver, are:

Speed Distance
50 km / h 23m
80 km / h 53m
110 km / h 96m

Braking distances increase enormously on wet surfaces or with loose materials, when your tires are worn, when you carry heavy loads and when your brakes are bad.

The case of concentration is clear that the driver will be attentive to the road, but if technologically we can help, especially in those moments that driving is so complicated, any precaution that can be taken is necessary.

The most advanced solution to shorten the reaction distance

For this reason from Azimut we want to present the Flir thermal camera. The system is simple but powerful and consists of a switchboard and a camera that is installed in the front of the vehicle.

How does the FLIR PathfindIR II Camera work?

Any image detected by the camera is thermally seen on a vehicle’s own monitor in a gray scale. The difference is incredible to see nothing to see it all up to about 500mtrs. Being able to see a dangerous curve with many meters ahead or seeing a vehicle standing on the road can prevent an accident.

This is an important advance but this solution can still help more. The system works by thermal analysis, so specific logarithms have been generated to detect pedestrians, cyclists and animals on or near the road.

The visual alarms of these objects will be marked in yellow boxes to call attention, warn of any risk and thus avoid an accident.

In the end that this system warns us of any obstacle to more than 200 meters makes our reaction distance is less so we avoid unexpected braking and possible accidents.
