Satellite Antennas for the New Generation buses.

As mentioned in previous posts, the only option available on the market today in order to enjoy live satellite television while in route is installing a satellite antenna that allows connectivity with the satellite while the bus is on the move.

While the number of options for satellite antennas available on the market today is not very extensive, it is true that there is a model of satellite antennas with 4 characteristics that make them a bit higher in terms of quality and performances.

The First of these characteristics is the height of the antennas. It is true that there is a wide range of antennas on the market with dimensions in height of 35-40 cm, which depending on the height of the bus they can be installed on the ceiling. However, we have some available models of antenna with a height of 16-25 cm, improving the aesthetics of the bus on one hand, as they project less, and besides that this reduction is also important in terms of height to be installed in a greater number of bus models.

The Second of these characteristics has to do with the reception technology they use. Most of the antennas on the market use a turntable as a conventional antenna, which allows amplification and signal reception. Such antennas have primarily a limitation and they cannot work with satellite elevations above 60% at the reception points. This means that in many countries of northern Europe, equatorial regions, the Middle East and Africa is impossible to use them because the position of the satellites requires antennas that can work with elevation angles greater than 60%. In this case, the new antenna array technology allows working with elevations of up to 80%, which facilitates the use of the antennas in most areas of the world.

The Third has to do with the automatic skew adjustment and it is able to travel several thousands of miles with no need to adjust the skew of the antenna. Not all the antennas on the market have this feature, but it is interesting for long-distance buses.

The Fourth characteristic is linked to the number of outputs of the antenna that enables independent connection to multiple monitors inside the bus, allowing you to watch different channels in each. Almost all antennas on the market have an output to a central monitor, which distributes the signal to other monitors, but there are already antennas that can include 2 or 3 independent outputs thus make possible to watch different channels at different monitors of the bus.

The Fifth characteristic is the possibility of receiving dual-band and dual polarity, which enables the reception of all channels of a particular satellite, unlike other antennas on the market that focus only on a particular band or polarity by restricting the number of channels that can be received.
