HOW TO AVOID PAINFUL SITUATIONS IN THE BUS WIFI MANAGEMENT

In previous articles we have discussed many topics related to the operation and management of the Wi-Fi network in the bus, but in this case we will discuss the risks and undesirable situations that can arise when using our wireless network,

Who is responsible for the Wi-Fi network in the bus?

To begin with, it is important to indicate that the owner is primarily responsible for the use of the Wi-Fi network in the bus. All the data traffic that our passengers generate goes out through our router, which is our face to the public from the very first moment. For this reason, it is important to inform the user about the terms of use and responsibilities, so that he reads, understands and accepts the terms and conditions, so that the user himself is responsible for the use of the internet during the time that he is connected to our Wi-Fi network.

How can we transfer this responsibility? From the "captive portal", which is a configured page that appears just before the user starts surfing the Internet and where we can display the company logo as well as custom texts and the block with the legal conditions that the user is obliged to accept to surf.

That is why it is very important when managing the Wi-Fi network in the bus that our system has such a “captive portal”, not only because it is interesting from a marketing point of view, but because it is essential to take responsibility for internet use. transfer to the user.

Which websites can passengers visit?

When managing the Wi-Fi network, it is also important to pay attention to the websites that are visited by passengers during the journey. As everyone knows, a bus is less or not suitable for surfing to certain sites, either because the content is not suitable to be seen in public or because it is not in our interest, as the owner of the Wi-Fi system, which certain sites are used.

When we use the term "not in our interest", we mainly mean websites that by the nature of their content imply a high data usage. Let's not forget that the entire Wi-Fi system is carried by data connections through phone lines and they have a monthly limit that we must not exceed if we don't want to run our bus without Wi-Fi service.

Some website families that are not recommended are, for example, software update, video streaming or application download sites. Any use by the passenger of these websites involves a large consumption of data and it is therefore important that our Wi-Fi network management system has mechanisms in place that make it possible to block access to these types of websites, which we can call “data guzzlers”. By avoiding access to it, we achieve:

Can I refuse the connection due to incorrect use of the internet?

The answer is yes. What can we do if, despite controlling and managing the data traffic, we have a user who uses the Wi-Fi service incorrectly? In this case, it is important to have the tools that allow us to refuse access to our system to those passengers whom we deem necessary. The Wi-Fi system on board the bus must prevent the connection or in an efficient manner, discreetly denying the passenger's device access to our Wi-Fi network.
