Why do we need a DRM system?

There is a clear and concise answer. Movies (or any content) cannot be issued without a DRM system. The transport operator will not have license from producers without a DRM system, and therefore he can be reported for violating intellectual property.

drmAlthough it may not seem so, digital content (movies, series, news, music) have an owner (what is technically called having rights), which is not the transport operator but those who produce them (music and film studios, publishing houses). Even though we purchase these content, they are not ours. We have the right to play them in public but not to copy or distribute them.

Any content without associated protection, circulating on the Wi-Fi networks can be easily hacked by any moderately experienced hacker.

The DRM systems (or Digital Rights Management systems) are used precisely to prevent these contents from being downloaded, copied and therefore causing a strong financial damage to the owners. As there may be many different systems, and in order to avoid collapses, the studios have decided to approve or certify some of them that usually belong to large multinational software corporations (Google, Microsoft, Marlin corp.).

Therefore, when a content broadcasting platform wants to show protected content, it must incorporate software architecture in the process of storage and reproduction, including the DRM (digital rights management), based on a product approved by the producers.

DRM technically consists of a content encryption using a cryptographic key that is decrypted on the reproduction. Normally the key is to be generated externally to the own player in a key server.

Incorporating a DRM to your architecture is not simple; it requires a certification in the product and evaluating different factors such as the global architecture and the business model.

Azimut has made a great effort and investment in R & D, choosing the Widevine product by Google, and achieving a technological partner certification that allows you to develop your products and even export your solution to third parties.

This certification is awarded directly by Google Corp.Sistema-de-entretenimiento-individual-inalambrico

All products managed by Azimut are under the umbrella of this architecture.

This choice has been made thinking of Azimut customers and their passengers.

Being a unique product, it does not impact them the extra cost that would be depending on an external provider within the business model.

It allows web architecture, thus it does not require connection to App and it gives greater flexibility in the product update.

Google also monopolizes the Android market, which is a bet on present and future regarding the compatibility of terminals.

It is technologically the most consistent commitment and the one with less impact on the final price of the product, since the integrator is Azimut itself and it does not depend on third parties in the business model.

If you are a transport operator, and your provider does not have DRM or any associated DRM market technology, do not trust it … or simply do not take it into consideration.
