How to avoid embarrassing situations in bus WiFi management?

In previous articles we have written about several topics related to the use and management of the WiFi network on the bus , but this time we will deal with the risks and undesirable situations that come with using our wireless network.

Who is responsible for the WiFi network on the bus?

The owner is basically responsible for using the WiFi network on the bus, since the traffic generated by the passengers goes out through our router. That is why it is important to communicate the conditions of use to the user so that he reads, understands and accepts them, thus giving him responsibility when surfing the Internet.

And how can we best transfer this responsibility?

From an access portal page, which is no more than a pre-configured page that obliges the user to accept the terms of use in order to be able to access our WiFi network. Furthermore, the company logo and user-defined text fields can be inserted here.

For this reason, in the management of the WiFi network on the bus, it is very important that our system has this access portal page, not only for marketing reasons but also to transfer responsibility to the actual user during Internet use.

Which websites can passengers visit?

When managing WiFi on the bus, it is important to pay attention to which websites are visited by passengers during the journey. As we all know, a bus is not the appropriate place to visit certain websites because of content that is not adequate to be viewed in public or because we, as the owners of the WiFi system, “do not interested” that certain webs are visited.

By "not interested" we mean pages that require a lot of data usage. Our WiFi system is backed by phone data lines which have a monthly traffic cap. Should this limit be reached, the bus would no longer be able to offer WiFi service.

These non-recommended sites include, but are not limited to, software update sites, video streaming sites, or application download sites. The use of these websites by the user requires an enormous amount of data, so it is important that our WiFi system on the bus has mechanisms that block access to such websites.

By avoiding access to these pages, we achieve:

Can I deny connection for improper use?

The answer is yes. Even though we control and monitor traffic, there may still be times when a customer misuses the WiFi service. What can we do? In this case, it is important to have tools that refuse to be connected to our system if misused.
