Context and Objective of Cyprus Public Transport
Cyprus Public Transport, a public transport company that has recently modernized its fleet of over 200 buses, had the challenge of providing fast mobile internet service both on their buses and at bus stations. Aware of the difficulty of implementing a suitable network for their extensive fleet, they needed a centralized management system to handle all devices efficiently. In addition, they wanted to use this network as a marketing platform to increase customer engagement.
Solution Implemented
To achieve its goals, Cyprus Public Transport collaborated with COMIT Solutions and NSS Corp. on one of the first 5G technology adaptations in Cyprus. They installed MAX Transit 5G routers on its fleet of more than 200 buses, which provide onboard Wi-Fi connectivity through its 5G connection. In addition, the MAX Transit 5G buses feature a customizable captive portal and support for external captive portals. InControl, Peplink's cloud-based management platform, was used to configure the 240 devices on the buses.
Results Achieved
With MAX Transit 5G routers on each bus, congestion and Wi-Fi interference were reduced, providing a reliable and uninterrupted internet connection to all passengers. The ability to connect to an advertising server and generate detailed reports on ridership demographics marked a significant advance in customer interaction. In addition, combining the GPS capabilities of the MAX Transit 5G with InControl improved fleet management, which helped Cyprus Public Transport improve the efficiency of its vehicles. InControl facilitated the deployment and management of the devices on all buses, thus optimizing the transport company's operations.
