Recognizing that more than 60% of the population spends a lot of time in transit, the city sought a solution to keep passengers connected during their journeys.
The Challenge of Integrating Technology and User Experience
MRRT's main challenge was to integrate security, scalability, marketing and customer experience into their transportation network. They needed a system that could improve the user experience when changing routes and capture data that would benefit local businesses and increase sales. They were looking for a sustainable solution to offer free internet connectivity services on all their routes, collaborating with KBS Mobility and T-Mobile to develop a strategic configuration for approximately 36,000 daily commuters.
Solution Implemented by KBS Mobility
KBS Mobility designed a solution consisting of 100 MAX Transit Mini devices, each paired with a Puma 221 MIMO 2×2 antenna, to provide secure Wi-Fi with LTE on the move. They created a single sign-on portal for travelers, capturing important data and facilitating automatic connection to the routers as soon as passengers approached a bus. The data collected was also used for targeted advertising through the Captive Portal, increasing traffic and engagement with local businesses. The MAX Transit Mini devices were selected for their useful features for on-board connectivity, such as GPS tracking and ignition detection.
Results and Benefits
Through collaboration with KBS Mobility and T-Mobile, MRRT was able to offer free high-speed Wi-Fi to daily commuters. This implementation resulted in an estimated 12% increase in productivity during travel. In addition, local businesses had the opportunity to promote their offerings, such as discounts and sales, thus improving their visibility and sales.
