Why is a DRM system needed?

There is a clear and concise answer, without a DRM system you cannot broadcast movies (or any other content). Without a DRM system, the transport operator will not have a license from the producers and therefore can be sued for violating intellectual property.

Although you candrmIt doesn't seem that way, digital content (movies, series, press, music) have an owner (this is what is technically called having the rights), which is not the transport operator but the one that produces them (the film and video studios). music, publishers) and even if we buy them they are not ours. We have the right to reproduce them in public but not to copy or distribute them.

Unprotected content traveling over a Wi-Fi network can be easily hacked by any moderately skilled hacker.

DRM or digital rights management systems are precisely used to prevent these contents from being downloaded, copied and therefore causing potential economic damage to the owners. As there can be many different systems, and to avoid collapse, the studios have chosen to homologate or certify some of them, which normally belong to large multinational software corporations (Google, Microsoft, Marlin corp.).

Thus, when a content broadcast platform wants to broadcast protected content, it must incorporate a software architecture in its storage and playback process that includes DRM digital rights management based on a product approved by the production companies.Wireless-individual-entertainment-system

Technically the DRM consists of an encryption of the content by means of a cryptographic key that is decrypted in the reproduction. Normally the key has to be generated externally to the player itself in what is called a key server.

Incorporating DRM into your architecture is not easy, it requires product certification and evaluating different factors such as the global architecture and the business model

Azimut has made a great effort and investment in R&D and has chosen Google's Widevine product, obtaining a technology partner certification that allows it to develop its products and even export its solution to third parties. This certification is granted directly by Google Corp.

All the products managed by Azimut are under the umbrella of this architecture

This choice has been made with Azimut customers and passengers in mind. As it is their own product, they are not affected by the extra cost of depending on an external provider within the business model. It allows web architecture, therefore it does not require an App connection and gives greater flexibility in updating the product. Google also monopolizes the Android market, which is a commitment to the present and future with respect to terminal compatibility.

It is technologically the most coherent bet and has the least impact on the final price of the product, as Azimut is the integrator itself and does not depend on third parties in the business model.

If you are a transport operator, and your provider does not have DRM or does not have any DRM technology associated with it on the market, be wary... or directly disregard it.
