Why is a DRM system needed?

There is a clear and concise answer, without a DRM system you cannot broadcast movies (or any other content). Without a DRM system, the transport operator will not have a license from the producers and therefore can be sued for violating intellectual property.

DRM or digital rights management systems are precisely used to prevent these contents from being downloaded, copied and therefore causing potential economic damage to the owners. As there can be many different systems, and to avoid collapse, the studios have chosen to homologate or certify some of them, which normally belong to large multinational software corporations (Google, Microsoft, Marlin corp.).

Thus, when a content broadcast platform wants to broadcast protected content, it must incorporate a software architecture in its storage and playback process that includes DRM digital rights management based on a product approved by the production companies.

Technically the DRM consists of an encryption of the content by means of a cryptographic key that is decrypted in the reproduction. Normally the key has to be generated externally to the player itself in what is called a key server.

Incorporating DRM into your architecture is not easy, it requires product certification and evaluating different factors such as the global architecture and the business model
