IUS content update

The IUS success is based on the digital content and on the reliability of the system. There's nothing more frustrating than sitting down and looking at the same offer from last week, last month and the last three months. This happens to us in an IUS of a bus and in any entertainment system.

• Therefore, we have to deal with a suitable content update for the use of our vehicle and the type of passenger. Here are three different cases:
  For exclusive use (eg a football club), passengers of the same age group and trips with always the same passengers, current films, short films, current music, video clips with a high update rate are appropriate without the need for an extensive catalogue.

• For medium and long-haul routes, with passengers of different ages, conditions, foreigners, etc., extensive catalogues, different divisions, original version with a medium update rate are appropriate. We will also need entertainment content that will contribute to customer loyalty, announcements of offers, links to websites of interest to the company, questionnaires to know the passenger's opinion first-hand...
• For occasional traffic with different groups that use the vehicle for a few days but will not repeat it, a very extensive range of films and music, tourist offers, surveys would be recommended. The refresh rate can be very low because of the retry probability
  of passengers is very low.

Content updating can be done through various means, but these must adapt to our needs. The most significant are:

1. By replacing a hard drive. Here we must have a spare disk through which we will load the new content and replace it on board. It is the safest and most practical remedy with three disadvantages:

   An employee has to invest time in it, when he should actually take care of the passenger traffic.
   In addition, the transport company usually does not have a qualified person for this task, which is understandable.

2. To be completely sure that there will be no problems, it is advisable to have a device in our office to check its operation before installing it on board. But all this has a price.

3. When the fleet is large and dispersed, there is an exchange of disks that involves administrative overhead and the hassle of having the right content at the right time and on the bus.

1. b) The solution we recommend, which is also the most reliable, is to choose a manufacturer that offers this service regularly, reliably and flexibly.
2. c) Remote update via WiFi or 3G/4G. This is exactly what leading manufacturers are working on, who are expected to introduce this in 2015. This allows the carrier or a third party (content manager) to directly manage the content per order.

   It requires a remote monitoring platform (“cloud”) from which to charge and monitor status. The content is updated on the selected day, in the desired vehicles...

   Between the two options, we choose the one that best suits our needs.

   large fleet (more than 20-25 vehicles) the second option is more advantageous, while for a small fleet the first option is more advisable due to its simplicity.
