In the previous blog we discussed the importance of Wi-Fi solutions being specific for the coach. As we have seen, this specificity of the solution is marked by two factors, hardware and software. In this new post, we will focus on the software. A key factor, since the notion of “manageable system” will depend on the software.
We can define a manageable Wifi system as one that allows us to monitor and act on key aspects of service delivery by the owner himself. So, according to this definition, we can say that a Wifi system will be unmanageable, quite the opposite, that it does not allow us to control the operation and use of the service.
But what is controlling the key aspects of Wifi service? It is simply a question of controlling what users do, how they do it and when they do it, all under the aegis of prior acceptance of legal conditions for use by the passenger himself.
The management functions of advanced Wifi systems in a coach will allow us to effectively manage the critical points of service delivery avoiding unwanted situations:
– We will avoid bandwidth inequality , because we will be able to assign the same specific bandwidth per traveler . In this way we will avoid having passengers monopolizing all the bandwidth (for viewing HD videos, heavy downloads…) This is a really critical point, since it is mainly responsible for the poor perception of the Wifi service on board by The passengers.
– We will prevent our Wifi network from becoming an “ open bar” of data thanks to the possibility of limiting the overall volume of data downloaded and sent per session and user. As a result we will consume less data monthly from our data lines.
– We will avoid access to websites with inappropriate content such as adult sites, massive download pages or any other which should not be used in public on a bus.
A new way of communicating with passengers
The manageable Wifi system provides us with additional services , such as the management of the bus route network. It is also a new way of interacting with the passenger (through the distribution of advertising content to online users, online surveys). In any case, these features or applications integrated on the same Wifi network we will talk about in future articles since they deserve specific posts for the importance and the value they bring to the Wifi solution itself.
All the aspects that we have mentioned in this article are essential to obtain an optimal Wifi service on board the coach and therefore, that this investment is perceived positively by the passenger. It has been shown that passenger perception is worse in the case where on-board services do not work properly than if they were not offered directly from the outset.
