In the previous post of the blog we talked about how important it is that the WiFi solutions are specifically suitable for use in buses. As we saw, these specific properties are determined by two factors, the hardware and the software. In this new post we focus on the software.
An important factor, since it is on this that the concept of “controllable system” depends, which is what this article is about.
We can define a manageable WiFi system as a system that enables the owner to control and regulate important aspects of this service. An uncontrollable Wi-Fi system is the opposite, one where it is not possible to control the operation and use of the service.
But, what does checking important factors of the Wifi service mean? This is simply about checking what the users do, how they do it and when they do it, all under the umbrella of pre-acceptance of the legal terms of use by the passengers.
The features of advanced WiFi systems in the bus allow us to efficiently manage the following important points of the WiFi service and thus avoid unwanted situations:
-We avoid bandwidth inequality because we can allocate a certain bandwidth per passenger. In this way we avoid that there are passengers who use the entire bandwidth (for example by watching videos in HD, downloading large amounts…). This is a critical point as it is the main reason for passengers' dissatisfaction with the in-flight WiFi service.
– We prevent our WiFi network from turning into a free buffet of data, thanks to the possibility to limit the global data volume that is downloaded and uploaded per session and per user. As a result, we use less data from our data contract each month.
– We prevent access to inappropriate websites such as adult sites, special download sites or other sites that should not be used in public on a bus.
A manageable WiFi system offers us additional benefits, such as managing the coverage on the bus routes. It is also a new way of interacting with the passenger (by sending advertising messages to the connected users, questionnaires, etc.). Anyway, these functions or applications integrated into the WiFi network will be discussed in future posts, because they deserve special attention because of their importance and the value they add to the actual WiFi solution.
All aspects that we have covered in this article are fundamental for achieving optimal WiFi performance on board the bus , and thus for a positive assessment by the passer of this investment. It has been shown that the perception of a brand by passengers deteriorates when a service is offered on board that does not function correctly compared to not offering this service at all.
